Symptoms of Mesothelioma
One of the most disturbing facts regarding the cancer of mesothelioma is that the symptoms of this cancer are not at all specific to this disease only. A majority of the symptoms of this cancer are very much similar to the symptoms of the other diseases like pneumonia. As a result the patient might be exhibiting signs of the cancer right in the initial stages yet the proper diagnosis might not be made. As a result by the time the disease is detected in the patient it is already in its last stages. The best that the physician can do under these circumstances is to alleviate the pain and suffering of the patient. By no means can this cancer be cured permanently at that stage.
Some of the symptoms that can indicate the presence of this cancer in the patient are:
Pleural Mesothelioma: When the asbestos fiber finds its way into the mesothelium surrounding the lungs and the chest region then the cancer that it causes there is known as the pleural mesothelioma. Some of the most well known symptoms of the pleural mesothelioma are shortness of breath, wheezing, sustained cough, chest pain and fluid in the lungs. In case the patient is exhibiting any of these symptoms and also has a past history of exposure to asbestos then it is always advisable that the patient gets himself checked by a mesothelioma expert.
Peritoneal Mesothelioma: When the mesothelium surrounding the abdominal region gets afflicted with the cancer of mesothelioma then it is known as the peritoneal mesothelioma. Symptoms like abdominal pain, lumps in the abdomen, nausea, unexplained weight loss, fluid in the abdomen, etc. indicate that the patient might be suffering from the cancer of peritoneal mesothelioma. A majority of its symptoms are very much similar to the symptoms of other diseases that are well known. Pericardial Mesothelioma: Pericardial mesothelioma is the cancer of the mesothelium surrounding the pericardial region. Some of the symptoms that are indicative of this cancer are heart palpitations, chest pain, and shortness of breath, persistent cough and fever.
